Waikoloa Beach Resort in itself is a destination. This premier area on Waikoloa Beach Drive is known for its Golf courses, a couple of hotels, some villas and some upscale shopping, apart from its coastline, a salt and pepper beach and some water-sport activities, to name a few.
The Waikaloa Beach Resort is a very happening area but if you are relying on a GPS navigation system of certain kinds, you might find yourself going round this place several times, trying to find your destination. It happened to us when we were first heading to our hotel and we had to take directions from locals after the GPS we had with us, began misleading us. Apparently, they do not identify some addresses here.
We were put up in the Hilton Waikoloa Village and this one, all by itself, can be called a destination. The property sprawls around a bay and has its own lagoon, a great sunset point (since it is in the west) and has a lot of activities like boating and kayaking within the resort. There is a canal that runs the length of this spread-out place and there’s boating in it. Unfortunately around the time that we were there, there was maintenance work going on so we couldn’t do a waterway tour of the property.
Our mode of transport within the Hilton Waikoloa Village were the trams that went the length of the property all through the day and late into the night. Another thing that makes Hilton Waikoloa Village very interesting is that in its corridors and its outdoors, are hundreds of works of art, a lot of them Hawaiian and even some Asian, so as to show the close connection the islands have had with the east. There is also a museum within its boundaries that I had had plans to visit but couldn’t make happen as we were so packed. By the way, I wonder if anybody has ever had ‘enough time’ in Hawaii.
HWV is more than a holiday hotel because it has so many activities and showcases so much of the local culture, which includes traditional Luaus(Hawaiian feast along with song-and-dance), and Pu (Conch) blowing lessons. Apart from that, there are dolphins to watch, dolphin activities for kids and water sports. I won’t be surprised if I heard of someone who ‘went to experience Hawaii by just staying within this ‘village,’ as it is rightly called.
I don’t generally write about hotels/resorts, but this time, I just had put down a few lines about HWV, because it is not just a random hip accommodation. The only other such place that features in Tipsy from the Trip is Forest Hill – Where the wild come visiting
