Summer in the United States means, family vacations, camping, beach-going  and COUNTY FAIRS. If you have plans to visit in the summer and you want to try out some typical American Fair Food this is your chance. Look up fairs around where you are visiting and go have a full day of fun. Your kids will love it too; there’s so much for them in there. Actually there’s something for everybody.

If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, you might want to check out the Alameda County Fair. This year (2012) also means its Alameda County Fair’s 100th year so we had all the reasons to hang out in Pleasanton where the fair is annually held. The idea was to go during the first weekend of the fair so that we could be witness to the Spice of India Festival too, but since we couldn’t make it due to various reasons, we checked into the fair last Sunday. And still had a fun-filled day.

Come see Alameda County Fair celebrate it’s 100th birthday:

Pony Rides

Story reading at Storyville

Curious George and Bernstein Bears who dropped in to say hello, Storyville

Giant colouring board, also at Storyville
 Fair Food
Alameda County Fair had everything from Hot dogs and Corn dogs to Mexican, Thai and Greek food. There was cotton candy, curly fries, funnel cake, fried ice cream, Shave ice… just about everything.

Curly Fries
Nachos and Fish Tacos

Oh yes, there's something for everybody in the family. That's right. As parents get to ride most of the rides along with the kids, it's a place for parents to turn into kids for a while. πŸ™‚
The food is really is another attraction in these fairs. You're spoilt for choices.

is this your new blog? why did you submit this blog separately? you lost your indirank :(. you could have merged it with the old blog, it anyway redirects to this one.

anyway, lovely post again! looks like a fun thing!! i love such events. lots of food, lots of fun, lots of smiles πŸ™‚

i was actually waiting for your new post. was about to ask you

Actually I'd moved to custom domain over a month ago. I'd sent a couple of messages to the IB team and asking them if they'd edit my url or if I'd have to submit it again. Never heard from them πŸ™ So I just re-submitted it coz it was getting painful to add the dots and dashes in the url, everytime I put something up on IndiVine.

I know, I've lost the rank for now :(. This post will have to manage with few votes. Just wanted to put up a post. Anyway the new ranks should be here in two days (hopefully πŸ˜‰ )

I'm sure you'd love events like this. It's crazy fun. Oh and the food is really sinful ;). I wanted to try some fried ice cream but the shave ice made me so full. So, maybe next year.

I bet CA fairs are lovely! Can you complete them in a day? Do they have bull rides also:)? The photos you have posted are lovely–specially the curly fries. Write more on the people who attend, the food fare, the hawkers…are there any…
One more post on this D–with more details!

      Hey Bhavana,
It was my first time at a county fair. Nope couldn't do it all in a day :(. No bull rides here. :(. Around Texas there should be, right. Gosh that must be crazy :D. I wish I could try that some day. πŸ™‚
Those curly fries, we couldn't finish it.
Unfortunately we didn't get to try all the typical fair food. We were just letting the kids have fun that day. I would love to go to a fair again. And next time I shall try it all — the fried ice cream, fried butter, fried burritos… all of it. And I'll write about it and put a whole lot of pictures and make sure your mouth waters :D.

I haven't been to very many, but I do love the lively atmosphere of these events. I actually wanted to do that ride in the first picture, but got so tied up with the kiddy rides :(. I'm doing it, next time. πŸ™‚

Yeah Rachna, really. We went with a few friends and the kids absolutely loved it. The Storyville place where there was story reading and building blocks and colouring material for the kids was a really cute part of the fair.
There's so much life there. Lots of food and lots of fun. But we really didn't do justice to our taste buds. πŸ™

Welcome here, Meoww. Curly fries are any day better, right? I had a good time. I'm just not very happy about the fact that I didn't make use of the opportunity to get to know proper fair food.

You did try that bubble thing? So cool. I would have loved to, but there were only little kids doing it, there. I felt so old :(.

Ice slush? Is that what you call it there? Nice, I like that name. Very apt. Around here it's called Shave ice. :D.
